High off-road capability is achieved not only by an appropriately shaped tire, but also by tire pressure optimally adjusted to the ground’s particularities. Traction is for example significantly improved when air is released to pass over soft sand or mud. Lowering the air pressure in a tire would, for example, create a larger area of contact between the tire and the ground and thus makes driving on softer surfaces much easier. Giving the driver direct control over the air pressure in each tire, maneuverability is greatly improved. It’s also significantly less damaging to the ground you’re driving on itself.

The TIBUS PD6606 compressor when you leave the off-road area and resume driving on regular paved roads.

In any case, we advice against the use of small, cheap compressors not especially built for the task at hand. With these, oftentimes neither performance shows to be sufficient to fill tires of larger dimensions in an appropriate time, nor do most of these machines exceed the filling capacity of four wheels simultaneously – often leading to a total failure due to overheating beforehand.

 

 

We offer a portable 12 VDC high-performance compressor with a 6-liter pressure tank, which allows to precisely control tire pressure regulation, as conveniently and quickly as at the filling station or the workshop.

The device is nevertheless inexpensive and designed for portable use or for integration into the TIBUS tire pressure control system.

It also provides the necessary compressed air for adjustable shock absorbers, for switching differential locks or for the TIBUS air suspension system. Even smaller compressed air tools can be operated with the portable TIBUS high-performance compressor “PD 6606“. It’s therefore also fitted to many rescue- and emergence vehicles and fire trucks.

Even easier to use is the TIBUS tire pressure control system “TO-CTIS 4“, which is available as a special accessory for our TIBUS beadlock rims.

In case of dire tire repairs far from civilization, reliable compressors are indispensable, even though tires on TIBUS beadlock wheels can be chanced can be chanced without heavy special tools.

A central tire inflation system (CTIS) is a system to provide control to the air pressure in each tire of a vehicle as a way to improve performance on different surfaces. Lowering the air pressure in a tire would, for example, create a larger area of contact between the tire and the ground and thus makes driving on softer surfaces much easier. Giving the driver direct control over the air pressure in each tire, maneuverability is greatly improved. It’s also significantly less damaging to the ground you’re driving on itself.

Another function of the CTIS is to maintain pressure in the tires if there is a slow leak or puncture. In this case the system controls inflation automatically based on the selected pressure. Air compressors are very helpful equipment for different kind of repairs in the field.

 

 

The heart of the TIBUS central tire inflation system “TO-CTIS4” is the TIBUS “PD6606” 12 VDC air compressor with 100% duty cycle. Every TIBUS bead lock wheel is equipped with two filling connectors. So you may control the tire pressure as well at the normal valve.

If there is a CTIS installed to your vehicle you can also use the second valve stem to fill and control the air pressure of external devices. The TIBUS TO-CTIS4 system will also work with all other wheels.

The air compressor is sold separately because many customers already have their own on-board air pressure system.

In order to optimally complement of our TIBUS Bolt-on portals we developed special wheels. This two piece TIBUS Beadlock wheels are made precisely from high-strength light alloy.

Beadlock wheels are originally developed for the military sector and special purpose vehicles, they have now made their way also into the expedition as well as into the off-road vehicle sector.

No heavy special tools are required to mount the tires on our TIBUS Beadlock wheels – even large-sized tires can be installed. A huge advantage – not only if you find yourself far from any workshop.

For tire filling we recommend the portable TIBUS air compressor “PD 6606”.

 

 

Increasing the footprint of the tires is absolutely necessary for if you want to increase your vehicle’s mobility on soft terrain such as sand, mud or snow. This can be achieved by decreasing the tires’ air pressure: A 4×4 would, for example, can at low pressure easily exceed the footprint of an 8×8 at service pressure. This mobility is only achievable if the wheels are equipped with a tire bead locking device.

Another advantage of the TIBUS beadlock wheels is that, even with a complete loss of pressure, the emergency running characteristics still offer sufficient safety to move around the terrain carefully. In addition, their special design prevents foreign objects such as dirt, water or sand from penetrating the space between tire and wheel even at very low tire pressures. This significantly increases the life of the tires – and puts you always on the safe side, even in challenging terrain.

Then, if the traction should no longer be sufficient for driving, TIBUS high-performance winch will bring you back to solid ground. Safely.

TIBUS beadlock wheels come with an offset of 65 millimeters to keep the track as narrow as possible and are therefore perfectly suited for our TIBUS bolt-on portals, but can also be mounted unrestrictedly on Mercedes Benz G-Wagon vehicles without bolt-on portals. As a special accessory to TIBUS beadlock wheels you can order a suitable TIBUS tire pressure control system, which is permanently installed in the vehicle.

TIBUS Bolt-on portals

Portal axles create unique ground clearance by virtue of the axle tube and the differential housing being situated above the wheel center. This technology is the only way to properly achieve proper ground clearance that doesn’t just affect the car’s body.

TIBUS Bolt-on portals will give your vehicle a “lift” of about four to five inches (100 to 125 mm). Naturally, by using larger wheels you’ll be able to augment your ground clearance even further.

TIBUS Bolt-on portals are available for Land Rover, Mercedes Benz G-wagon, Nissan Patrol and UAZ as well as for some Jeep and various Toyota models, also for Suzuki Jimny. Portals for other vehicles will follow soon.

The bolt-on solution developed by TIBUS Offroad Engineering is an unrivaled way of maintaining the modified car to use as your daily driver.

You can get a lift of up to 8” keeping the stock suspension, maintain use of the OEM electronic damping, ABS, traction control and other electronics (if equipped) without any error codes or warning lights activating.

In order to drive larger wheels no further modifications have to be made to the suspension. The entire axle and steering geometry is also maintained.

For optimum equipment we recommend TIBUS bead-lock wheels which have been specially developed for the use with TIBUS Bolt-on portals but can also be mounted on Mercedes vehicles without portal axles.

TIBUS Bolt-on portals are installed on the existing axles, with their special design maintaining their rotating direction. The portal reduction guides the power to the wheels, while the portal gear ratio reduces the load on the complete drive train since the torque acts only on the wheel.

The gear ratio of the TIBUS Bolt-on portals is between 1.16 – 1 to 1.6 – 1 depending on the type of vehicle and it’s intended use. The overall axle ratio changes corresponding to the respective factor, which makes it possible to drive large wheels without having to adjust the gear ratio of the differentials.

To monitor the oil temperature in our bolt-on portals we recommend the TIBUS temperature monitor “TMS18“.

The TIBUS Bolt-on portals are each designed to fit the standard GVW of the vehicle accordingly. If a higher payload is desired, please contact us so that we can find an optimal solution.
